US Secretary of Commerce visit Lao PDR - Witness Signing
(KPL) Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith received on Sep 29 in Vientiane U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross who is on a working visit to Laos on Sep 28-30.
The host highly valued the first visit to Laos by the U.S. commerce secretary as it means the two countries will be able to discuss enhancing the cooperation on trade and investment between the two countries and expressed welcome to the signing between the U.S. company Convalt-GE Energy and the Taiwanese bank Cathay United Bank on solar power development project in southern Laos and the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the establishment of the Women’s Entrepreneurial Center.
The centre is designed to promote the cooperation between the two countries and economic growth in Laos.
On behalf of the Lao government and people, Minister Saleumxay expressed gratitude to the U.S. government for its generous support over the past years especially for the removal of unexploded ordnance (UXOs), education, health, drug control and suppression as well as law enforcement, among others.
Over the past years, Laos and the U.S have increasingly witnessed exchange visits by senior officials of economic, trade and investment areas including the recent visit by the delegation of U.S.-ASEAN Business Council to explore investment potentials in the Lao PDR.
